Schubert stays, but several players leave.

After missing out on the playoff spot on goal difference, the focus has moved onto who will leave the club during the summer.

Speculation had been rife regarding the position of Andre Schubert leading up to the game against Paderborn, with many media outlets reporting that he would be sacked. This seemed inevitable when the club called a press conference for Monday afternoon, but in a suprise turn of events the club announced that Schubert would be staying.

Prior to the game against Paderborn it was also confirmed that Deniz Naki would leave the club at the end of the season, with the club and the player agreeing to go their separate ways. Naki joins the list of players departing, with Carsten Rothenbach, Charles Takyi, Petar Filipovic, Petar Sliskovic and Philipp Heerwagen all leaving the club this summer.

Today, it has been confirmed that Max Kruse has joined SC Freiburg for an undisclosed fee. There’s also rumours that Lasse Sobiech (on loan from Dortmund) could be on his way to Werder Bremen or Eintracht Frankfurt, whilst the future of Carlos Zambrano in doubt despite the club buying him from Schalke as part of their loan agreement earlier in the season. Another player linked with a move away from the club is central defender Fabio Morena, whose place in the first team is in doubt next season with the signings of Florian Mohr and Soren Gonther who will both sign from Paderborn.

It’s going to be a long summer without football…
