Comings and Goings.

St. Pauli today confirmed that both Tschauner and Funk will remain at the club for next season. The club had an option to automatically renew the loan of Tschauner if he made 25 appearances last season, however he failed to meet this criteria because of his injury. He had been linked with a number of Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga clubs, but has decided to stay at the Millerntor for a further season. Patrick Funk had the option to return to VFB Stuttgart but has decided to extend his stay at the club for the forthcoming season too. Paddy said on the website, “I could now go back in the summer to VfB Stuttgart, but I see the best opportunities to develop myself here, so I have not taken this option [to return to Stuttgart]. Because with St. Pauli, I have a perfect package and I am looking forward immensely to the new season.” However, Arvid Schenk, the 3rd choice goalkeeper has left the club.

Elsewhere, Helmut Schulte (sporting director) has left the club. It had been rumoured that the relationship between Schulte and Schubert were strained, and this would appear to be the reason behind his departure. In a short statement on the website, the club thanked Schulte for his outstanding service. During an interview published on the official site, President Stefan Orth failed to disclose the reasons behind the ‘mutual’ agreement. When asked about who replace Schulte, Orth responded “We have decided to entrust assistant coach Thomas Meggle with the transitional tasks. Chief Scout Stefan Studer and Vice President Jens Duve will support him. They are planning to run the squad along with the coaching staff until we have found a new sporting director.”
