This week’s training camp concluded yesterday with a 4-0 victory against SV Sparta Werlte, who had invited St. Pauli to play the friendly as part of the their 100 year celebrations. St. Pauli again started with 2 strikers upfront in a 4-4-2 formation, which would suggest that Schubert will change the formation for the coming season from the 4-5-1 we have used in recent seasons. It was the strike-force that did all the damage, with the first half pairing of Thy and Saglik both scoring in the early minutes of the game.
The game was temporarily suspended after half an hour due to and thunder storm, and was paused for 30 minutes whilst the torrential downpour cleared. At half-time Schubert replaced the two goalscorers with Ebbers and Ginczek, who then grabbed a goal each to give Schubert a selection headache as to who his front pairing will be come the start of the season. The other selection of note was Robin Himmelmann, the keeper formerly of Schalke who had spent the past week on trial. He played the full match, but was rarely troubled.
