We are sad to hear that the Aachen Ultras “ACU” disbanded yesterday, following a campaign against them by their fellow supporters group ‘Karlsbande’. The ACU were formed in 1999, but trouble started in 2010 when much of the ACU broke away from the group and formed Karlsbande. The ACU were strictly anti-fascist, but the new Karlsbande group, despite claiming to be ‘non-political’, attracted a number of neo-Nazis.
Since then, trouble has occurred between the two groups, with members of the Karlsbande group attacking ACU members leaving several hospitalised. They also attacked ACU members at home, attacking them and smashing their cars. Instead of receiving support from their club as would be expected, the club ignored the Karlsbande group and let the violence continue.
Now the ACU have decided to stop attending games and disband the group, meaning the Nazis have won. This should never have been allowed to happen, and is a sorry state of affairs that provides a stark warning to people willing to accept racism and discrimination, both inside of football and outside on the streets.
